Do you love to take pictures of flowers with your smartphone, but sometimes feel disappointed with the results? This class will cover composition and exposure tips to help your phone photos go from disappointing to “wow”. Big and bold, or small and subtle, we’ll have a fun, hands-on morning wandering around the Montrose Botanical Gardens, looking for great flower subjects to hone your skills.
You should have a basic understanding of how your iPhone or Android phone camera works, and a love for all things floral. You will receive a cheat sheet of composition and exposure tips for use in the future. Note, this is an outdoor class and you should come prepared to walk or roll through the gardens in anything from full sun to a light shower. However, it will be rescheduled in the event of rain. We will meet at the front gate at 8:00 AM sharp so we can shoot during that soft, warm morning light!
Instructor
Susan has been an artist all her life, but her artistic life supercharged in her late 20’s with the purchase of her first SLR camera. Thousands of photos later, she can still be found capturing majestic Western landscapes down to the smallest of wildflowers. Although primarily a photographer, she has taken numerous classes in watercolor, collage and bookmaking, expanding her skills and appreciation for new art forms. In the early 2000’s, Susan was a member of the Boulder Art Association, and Chair of their 2008 “Spirit of Chautauqua” show. After moving to Montrose, Susan served as the Gallery Director for the Montrose Center for Arts until May 2024.
