Started nearly 10 years ago, Art In Motion (AIM) — a program now under the umbrella of the Montrose Center for Arts (MCA) — links local artists with the business community. The program provides interested businesses with an ever-changing array of works of art for a small yearly donation to the MCA. Local artists create and provide their artwork — and even hang or arrange
the items — for participating businesses.
Says AIM Coordinator Donna McMahon, “The program is extremely popular with local businesses. Each business gets to rotate artwork every four months, so their walls always look unique, fresh and attractive for customers. In the future, for a business to participate there may be a minimal donation to MCA required, which is far less than what it would cost the business to purchase the art for their walls, especially if they had to pay for new art every four months. In addition, the businesses have the satisfaction of supporting the arts in our community.”
Some of the businesses who are already a part of the program include the multiple areas of the Tower Building, Coffee Trader, Anytime Fitness, Montrose Visitor Center and at least dozen more locations all over Montrose. The photos for this story were taken at San Juan Brews.

How to Become an AIM Artist
In order to become eligible for AIM, artists must join the Montrose Center for Arts as a Member. Additional membership advantages include invitations to member-only special events, regular events and classes; unique show opportunities; notifications through the newsletter on all upcoming activities; and the ability to provide feedback on the direction of arts on the Western Slope at the annual meeting. Artists must be willing to prepare and hang their artwork, as well as check on their installations a couple of times during the four-month period.
Contact us if you are interested in volunteering, or having your work considered for hanging. Be sure to put “Art in Motion” in the subject line for a quicker response.
