Geri Bates
About
I enjoy working in Oils, Pastels, Charcoal and Ink Drawing. I favor painting in a realistic style and love the challenges of painting landscapes, wildlife, seascapes, still life and especially portraiture. I started entering art shows in 1981 winning recognition and awards. I was introduced to my portrait mentor, Mr. Frank Covino from Vermont in 1991. I took a workshop in Boulder and was blessed to learn the techniques and craft of the old masters. Frank offered full-week workshops that he held all over the United States. I coordinated workshops for him here in Montrose for 10 years. His method provides predictable, satisfying results.
I have taken classes from many local artists/teachers. I strive to continue learning and growing in my artwork. Drawing and painting is my passion and it feeds my soul.
I am proud to be a Colorado native, and was born in Glenwood Springs. I moved to Montrose in 1993 from Denver with my husband upon his retirement. I quickly became actively involved with the local art guild. Montrose Visual Arts Guild helped my connect with other artists and my creative interests. I am also a supportive member of the Montrose Center for the Arts.
